The painstaking renovation of this Sydney home highlights its proud past and sets up a sophisticated future.

This spacious Federation home in Sydney's eastern suburbs had an extensive renovation 15 years ago, including a new second storey and a rear extension. So, when its new owners picked up the keys in late 2009 it was liveable, but the outdated rooms of the house lacked much of the period charm of the older ones, and there was a disconnection between the two.

Before they moved in, the owners were keen to restore the house to its former glory, while at the same time tailoring it to suit their young family for years to come. Mixing old and new is never straight forward, so they turned to architect Tanya Hancock and interior designer Denai Kulcsar for assistance. The creative pair had never worked on a project together but were of the same mind when they saw the interior.

Park House, by T01 Architecture and Denai Kulcsar Interiors

With a brief to create a luxurious family home with glamorous touches and an Art Deco feel, the main obstacle in this project was to create a sense of consistency between the alterations and additions to the original house.

A warm, elegant and homely space is the result, with a sense of uniformity re-established.

Custom linen and velvet furniture and finishes specifically designed for spaces have also been implemented throughout the house.
